This talk examines episodes from the history of electroculture — the attempt to use electricity to promote plant growth — to highlight key dynamics of engineering and research projects. My analysis focuses on problems that historical actors set out to solve. This will allow us to trace changes in the role of institutions, access to natural resources and the criteriafor effective solutions over time. By emphasising the importance of artefact production in experimentation, as well as knowledge mobilisation and generation in engineering, the presentation will demonstrate the value of an integrated history of science and technology.
