The Soldier at the Western Front – The Use of Automatic Weapons
Source 2: Max Schwarte: The Technology in the World War

Meticulous comparisons of the weapon technology used by the Entente and the Axis can be found in post-war literature: The tenor in German publications was that German weapon construction was at least competetive. Germany couldn’t resist the economic superiority despite their technological achievements. The defeat in the war was seen as caused mainly through economic and military means and not because of technological reasons. Such views helped to establish “Stab-in-the-back myth” among engineers: According to it the military hadn’t understood the full meaning of technology and this lead to the disregarding of innovation potential.
