The Soldier at the Western Front – Propaganda War
Source 6: Valiant Hearts

The adventure game Valiant Hearts published in 2014 tries – while clearly expressing responsibilities – to establish a more differentiated view on the First World War that is supposed to be legitimated by the use of historical source material. In the setting of the fights at the Western Front a border crossing love story is told. During the game the player slips into characters on both sides. But it seems like the emblematic iconography of the Pickelhaube is still necessary – probably for the reason of game pragmatics – even though the German army was equipped with steal helmets since February 1916.
